Brian Sullivan

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, but I’m happy to be back on the Power Ranking grind. Let’s take a look at how the league is shaping up now.

1) New England Patriots (7-1)

The Jamie Collins trade does seem unusual… But I’ve learned to just let the Pats do their thing. This team looks unstoppable. Maybe it’s because a lot of other potentially elite teams look off right now, or maybe the Pats are just in a class of their own.

2) Dallas Cowboys (6-1)

Wow… What a comeback that was for this team. Dak looks great, the offensive line looks great, Zeke looks great, and the defense looks solid. This is a Super Bowl contender… with a rookie QB. That’s crazy.

3) Denver Broncos (6-2)

This defense… Even without Aqib Talib and Brandon Marshall, they still managed to play incredibly well against a high powered offense. The offensive woes might eventually catch up, but for now, they’re fine.

4) Seattle Seahawks (4-2-1)

Losing in New Orleans isn’t a big deal, especially when there were a couple of very controversial calls that went against Seattle. But the offense does have to find ways to put more points on the board.

5) Atlanta Falcons (5-3)

A nice bounce back win for the Falcons after 2 very tough losses. If you told Falcons fans that they’d escape a 4 game stretch of @Denver, @Seattle, Vs. San Diego, and Vs. Green Bay at 2-2, I’m sure they’d be pretty happy. Things get easier now.

6) Kansas City Chiefs (5-2)

Another year, another mid season hot streak for the Chiefs after a slow start. This team is so balanced and well coached… It’s tough to imagine that they lose many more games.

7) Oakland Raiders (6-2)

Well… I was wrong about Derek Carr. The dude is a stud. Yes, his offensive line makes things 10 times easier for him, but he makes some throws that are just mind blowing. This team could easily be another 2-6 or 3-5 team… Instead, they continue to find ways to win games.

8) Minnesota Vikings (5-2)

Ok… are we overreacting? Or are the Vikings fool’s gold? This defense can only do so much, and they look like they’re wearing down as the offense continues to stumble. Maybe they just need to get back home to get back on track? Or maybe this weak offensive line is finally crashing down on them.

9) Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3)

Looks like Ben is back already. The dude is a freak… But until this defense improves, they probably will stay ranked between 8-12.

10) Philadelphia Eagles (4-3)

With a dominant front 7, anything is possible. This team frustrates bad offenses, and they can even shut down great ones on occasion. Carson Wentz continues to play well. This team looks like a solid playoff contender.

11) Washington Redskins (4-3-1)

I have the Redskins below the Eagles simply because the Eagles have more X-factors on defense. But the Redskins are very talented; they’re like a poor man’s Chiefs. They’re consistent, they run the ball well, and the defense gets the job done.

12) Green Bay Packers (4-3)

A close loss at Atlanta is nothing to be ashamed of. The offense actually got things going. The defense will play better against most offenses. This is still a very good team.

13) San Diego Chargers (3-5)

This is where things get weird… Pretty much, the next 10-15 teams or so could be interchangeable. They’re all so mediocre in one way or another. I put SD here simply because they have a very good defense and the best QB besides Drew Brees out of these teams (not including 1-12).

14) Cincinnati Bengals (3-4-1)

This team is getting back on track. They still have a very balanced roster. Andy Dalton is still a high quality QB. They just need some easier opponents.

15) Detroit Lions (4-4)

Matthew Stafford is quietly having an MVP caliber season… Everyone was saying that for a few weeks, and one tough loss doesn’t change that. The defense on the other hand…

16) New York Giants (4-3)

The epitome of mediocre… They won’t beat any great teams (besides NE because… well… Eli), but they won’t blow it against bad teams either.

17) Miami Dolphins (3-4)

If the Dolphins come out of the Bye playing more physical, run up the gut football, they’ll start to rise up in the rankings more. The defense is quietely very good.

18) Buffalo Bills (4-4)

Ok, so I said if they lost a close game to NE that there’d be nothing to worry about… Well… Still, they aren’t an awful team. But the playoffs are looking like they’re getting further and further away.

19) Tennessee Titans (4-4)

I want to believe the Titans are good… Every time I do, they loser a bad game. They play SD this week… they could win, lose close, get blown out… none of it would surprise me.

20) Houston Texans (5-3)

Those 3 losses tell me everything I need to know about this team… They can’t compete with the big boys. The other teams above at least have some offensive firepower… The Texans offense is about as exciting as a pair of wet gym socks.

21) Arizona Cardinals (3-4-1)

Ok, maybe this time I’m actually overreacting… But that was awful. This offense looked absolutely overpowered by Carolina’s defense. Carolina still doesn’t have a secondary… There’s something very wrong with Carson Palmer.

22) New Orleans Saints (3-4)

Can we just send Drew Brees to like… Minnesota? Along with some offensive linemen? Then they can all just ride off into the sunset. (I know Vikings AND Saints fans find this blasphemous, but I don’t care). Nice win for the Saints.

23) Carolina Panthers (2-5)

So are the Panthers good again or?

24) New York Jets (3-5)

It’s weird… Because from 24-29, the teams aren’t THAT bad… In fact, any of them could go on a run and it wouldn’t surprise me. The Jets are one of those teams.

25) Baltimore Ravens (3-4)

Ok… Coming off the Bye against a hobbled Ben Roethlisberger. Can the Ravens beat their arch rival to climb back into the Playoff hunt?

26) Los Angeles Rams (3-4)

Case Keenum just doesn’t instill any faith in me… At all.

27) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-4)

The defense is a real issue… And the offense is very inconsistent. Some weeks, they look great. Others? They look awful.

28) Chicago Bears (2-6)

A nice win… Can they string together a few more now that Cutler is back?

29)  Indianapolis Colts (3-5)

Wow… how bad would they be without Luck?

30) Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5)

I just… This isn’t fun. The Jaguars shouldn’t be this bad… They shouldn’t be great, but they shouldn’t be THIS bad still…

31) San Francisco 49ers (1-6)

Drew Brees is coming to town this weekend… That doesn’t look good for the Niners.

32) Cleveland Browns (0-8)

… At least the Indians are close to winning the World Series?
